Katerina Siniakova won both of her matches in qualifying to make the main draw in Wuhan. She will hope to go further than she did in Beijing, as she lost in round one to Anastasia Potapova. She began her Asian swing in fine fashion, as she reached the semi-finals before a hard-fought loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova. That stands as her joint-best result on the WTA Tour this season.
She will face Diana Shnaider in the first-round. Her disappointing campaign continued at the China Open as she lost to Maya Joint in straight sets in round two after receiving a bye. Shnaider looked to have turned a corner on the eve of the US Open as she won the title in Monterrey, but the Russian has since gone on to lose three of her next four matches.
Shnaider leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a victory right at the start of the year in Adelaide, as she won a bizarre match 3-6 0-6 6-0. These two are both experienced doubles players and will cancel each other out at times, but Shnaider is higher ranked by a distance and starts as the favourite.
