Katarzyna Kawa got through the qualifiers to compete in the main draw at the Guangzhou Open. She has reached a final on the WTA Tour after her brilliant displays in Bogota, which saw her win six matches in a row, including the qualifying rounds. However, quite remarkably she has not won another match on the tour after losing in the first-round of tournaments in Iasi and Guadalajara. The Pole also failed to qualify for the Libema Open and German Open during the grass court season. She has still performed on the ITF circuit, making another final in Bastad. The 32-year-old is ranked 127 in the world.
Katie Volynets is another who has qualified for the tournament. The American began the month with a run to the final in Suzhou on the ITF Tour. She then qualified in Osaka but lost in the first-round to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Her best result on the WTA Tour this season was a quarter-final in Auckland right at the start of the year.
