Karolina Muchova battled past Maddison Inglis in her first-round match, winning 7-6 3-6 6-4. She had few chances in the match, only creating two break point opportunities, but managed to take the first set on a tiebreak and edge the third. Muchova has been struggling with a wrist injury over the last few months but seemed to have no issues during the encounter.
Tatjana Maria picked up a fine victory over Leylah Fernandez in the last round to advance. She edged a tight first set before running away with the second to win 7-6 6-2. The German now has three straight victories including qualifying, winning them all without the drop of a set.
