Karolina Muchova battled her way past Alycia Parks to advance in Melbourne. Muchova broke to go 4-3 up in the first set, only for Parks to win three games in a row to take the lead. She crucially saved two breaks at the start of the second, before breaking in the very next service game and going on to level the match up. She held her nerve to win 4-6 6-4 6-4 after two hours and 37 minutes.

She faces Magda Linette next. She recorded a comfortable win over Ann Li to set up a meeting with Muchova. The Pole was in control of the first set and broke twice in quick succession at the start of the second as she strolled to a 6-3 6-3 win after one hour and 46 minutes. She reached the semi-finals of this event in 2023, her best result at a Grand Slam.

Muchova leads the head-to-head 3-1 and has won the last three meetings. The Czech was not at her best in the last match but has enough quality in her game to get the better of Linette in round two.
