Karolina Muchova advanced to another quarter-final this season after thrashing Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets at the Bad Homburg Open. The Czech dropped just two games across the entire match as she won 6-1 6-1. This was her first grass court win of the campaign, as she lost her opening match at the German Open to Madsion Keys last week.
She will now face Clara Tauson. The Dane continued her resurgence as she came from a set down to beat Qinwen Zheng. Tauson was broken when serving to stay in the first set, but she held serve from that point on to win 5-7 6-4 6-2 after two hours and 13 minutes. Tauson advances to her third quarter-final of the season and her first since February.
Tauson does lead the head-to-head 1-0 after a win in Dubai last year. She seems to have overcome her fitness problems and her serve is working well, but Muchova’s variety could trouble her once the rallies are extended.
