Karen Khachanov vs Kei Nishikori prediction

Karen Khachanov will be under threat when he meets Kei Nishikori in the round of 16.

The fourth seed faces the Japanese for the eighth time and trails the head-to-head 5-2, including a defeat in Hong Kong earlier this season.

Indeed, the Russian has lost the last four encounters with Nishikori, who has impressed when his fitness has allowed this year. The 35-year-old came from a set down to beat teenager Learner Tien 4-6 6-4 6-4 in the first round and has never lost to Khachanov on clay.

Given their history and Nishikori’s quality on the dirt there may be value in backing the upset or it going the distance on this one.

Karen Khachanov vs Kei Nishikori tip: Over 2.5 sets
