Karen Khachanov ended a five match losing run with one of his most dominant wins in quite some time in the first-round of the Paris Masters as he thrashed Ethan Quinn 6-1 6-1. The Russian, who won this tournament in 2018, broke on five separate occasions to seal a win which lasted exactly an hour.
He now has a much tougher test in round two as he goes up against Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian teenager showed great fight as he came from a set down to beat Denis Shapovalov in the first-round. The 19-year-old levelled the match up and then crucially saved five break points in the second game of the deciding set after breaking right at the start. Fonseca won his first ATP 500 title in Basel last week and has now won his last six matches.
Khachanov has the greater pedigree, but Fonseca is enjoying the best run of his young career so far on the ATP Tour and will relish the opportunity of taking the game to the Russian and being aggressive from the baseline.
