Karen Khachanov advanced to the third-round of the French Open after a win over Marco Trungelliti. The Russian served for the match at 5-4 in the fourth set but spurned a match point as Trungelliti broke back. Nevertheless, Khachanov managed to regroup as he won 7-6 (5) 5-7 6-1 7-6 (4) after three hours and 45 minutes. His form has picked up over the past month, as he also progressed to the quarter-finals of the Italian Open.
His next opponent is Jesper de Jong. The Dutchman advanced to the third-round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career as he swept aside Federico Cina. De Jong, who beat Stan Wawrinka round one, went 3-1 down in the first set but then won 14 of the next 15 games as he sealed a 6-3 6-1 6-3 win after one hour and 48 minutes.
They played each other for the first time earlier this year in Rotterdam, with Khachanov coming from a set down. The Russian is a two-time quarter-finalist at Roland Garros and he is the clear favourite to get through to the next stage.
