Karen Khachanov did not enjoy a strong Asian swing as he failed to win a match, losing in the first-round of the China Open to Alexandre Muller and then exiting in round two of the Shanghai Masters to Juncheng Shang after receiving a bye. Khachanov leads the head-to-head 3-1 but Struff has won their only indoor hard court match against each other. All their best-of-three matches have gone the distance, and Khachanov will be under pressure to perform after a period of poor form.
