Karen Khachanov recovered from going a set down to beat Emilio Nava and book his place in the fourth-round. Nava was solid for about a set and a half, but Khachanov crucially broke in the middle of the second set and raced ahead in the decider to win 6-7 6-4 6-1. The Russian, who made the semi-finals of this tournament in 2018 and 2019, will be bidding to reach the last eight of a tournament for the fourth time in succession.

He will face Casper Ruud in the next round as he continued his recovery with a win over Nuno Borges. An injured Ruud had lost to the Portuguese in four sets two months ago at Roland Garros, but the Norwegian exacted revenge here with a 7-5 6-4 victory. He served well throughout, with 69% of first serve points won and nine aces overall.

Ruud leads the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on hard court. He beat Khachanov in four sets in the semi-finals of the US Open in 2022. The Norwegian seems to be returning to form after his layoff, but Khachanov will be his biggest test yet. This could go the distance.
