Kamil Majchrzak makes his return from injury at the Shanghai Masters, having not featured since his retirement in his third-round US Open match against Leandro Riedi. The Pole had performed strongly up to that point, having won two Challenger events and got through to the round-of-16 at Wimbledon, along with his run in New York. He has won 17 of his 22 matches at outdoor hard court tournaments in 2025.
Ethan Quinn is coming off the back of a decent showing at the China Open, as he got through the qualifying rounds and defeated higher-ranked Alex Michelsen in the first-round. He would then lose to Holger Rune in straight sets. This was a step in the right direction for the American after three straight losses prior to the event taking place.
These two played each other for the first time earlier this season, with Majchrzak brushing aside Quinn in three sets at Wimbledon. Though he might be short of match fitness, Majchrzak is a strong hard court opponent and has the more powerful game, which could overwhelm Quinn.
