Kaitlin Quevedo enters the main draw of the Auckland Open as a qualifier, with the teenager defeating Carole Monnet and Yeon Woo Ku. Both were hard-fought victories but the Spaniard is now hoping to make an impact in Auckland and start her season in a positive fashion. Quevedo is currently ranked 145 in the world and will be searching for her first tour-level victory.
Despite reaching a career high of 28 in the world, Peyton Stearns did not enjoy a strong second half to 2025 and her ranking has since dropped over 30 places. The American performed well during the clay court season, making the semi-final at the Italian Open and the round-of-16 in Madrid, but her form largely deserted her after that.
Stearns will be hoping for a reset in 2026 after some difficult moments towards the end of the last season, and she will be expected to see off the teenager in straight sets.
