Kaitlin Quevedo vs Elise Mertens prediction

Kaitlin Quevedo has enjoyed an encouraging 2026 season at times, as she begins her US Open campaign. The 20-year-old reached the semi-finals in Bastad before putting together an excellent run to the WTA 125 final in Targu Mures, winning four matches before losing to Laura Samson. Her most recent appearance ended in a narrow defeat to Ekaterina Ovcharenko in Philadelphia. She qualified for Roland Garros earlier in the campaign and beat Leolia Jeanjean in round one.

Elise Mertens arrives in New York immediately after reaching the Monterrey Open final. The Belgian mounted a brilliant comeback in the semi-finals as she beat Nikola Bartunkova, but she failed to win the title after a defeat to Diane Parry in the final. Parry also beat Mertens earlier this month at the Cincinnati Open. 

Mertens’ consistency, returning and greater hard court experience make her the clear favourite, but the rapid turnaround from a physically demanding week in Mexico gives Quevedo some hope.
