Juan Manuel Cerundolo reached the third-round of a hard court Masters tournament for the second time in his career as he came from a set down to beat Arthur Rinderknech. Cerundolo prevailed in successive tiebreaks to win 4-6 7-6 (3) 7-6 (5). The Argentine has enjoyed the best season of his career in 2026, which included a run to the round-of-16 of Roland Garros.
He will now face second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime after he got past former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Canadian was unable to feature at his home event due to a back problem and had not competed on the tour since his epic Wimbledon quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic in July. Auger Aliassime wasted no time as he opened up a 3-0 lead in the first set and broke late on in the second to win 6-3 7-5.
Cerundolo could frustrate Auger Aliassime at times with his patient approach, but the latter’s first strike style of tennis is well suited to the quick conditions.
