Joanna Garland has made incredible strides in recent weeks. She entered the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in Paris after winning her three qualifying rounds and then earned a victory in the first-round against Katie Volynets in three sets before losing at the next stage. She kept up the momentum despite the change of surface by also getting through qualifying in Rosmalen.
She now goes up against Bianca Andreescu who begins her grass court season at an event she reached the final of last year. She made her long awaited return from injury on the clay and found some form towards the end as she made the fourth-round of the Italian Open. However, she failed to keep up the momentum at Roland Garros as she was unable to make it out of qualifying.
This isn’t the easiest of matches for Andreescu with her opponent having lost just three matches of her last 16 overall, with most being on the Challenger Tour. The former US Open champion shone at this event last year and should still be making it through in straight sets.
