Jiri Lehecka advanced into the second-round after coming from a set down to beat Borna Coric. Lehecka broke Coric in just the second service game but the Croatian soon dominated as he won a total of seven games in a row to get ahead in the match. The Czech responded to win 3-6 6-4 7-6 6-1.
He will now go up against Tomas Martin Etcheverry as he thrashed his Argentine counterpart Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the first-round. Etcheverry won the last 11 games of the contest as he won 6-3 6-2 6-0 in just an hour and 45 minutes.
Etcheverry leads the head-to-head 2-1 but all meetings have taken place on clay, which is the Argentine’s strongest surface.
However, he cannot be counted out given the nature of his first-round win at Flushing Meadows and he can still cause Lehecka problems. Nevertheless, the Queen’s Club finalist has a title to his name on this surface in 2025 and possesses the more powerful all-round game. He is good value to win.
