Jiri Lehecka had struggled for most of the clay season before a breakthrough of sorts in Hamburg, as he beat fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets to reach the quarter-final. However his momentum was stalled as he lost in the last eight to another Argentinian in Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Jordan Thompson’s struggles with injuries have disrupted his season in recent times. He pulled out of the Barcelona Open with an ankle injury and then withdrew before the start of his second-round match with Brandon Nakashima in Rome. Over the past six weeks, he has only registered two wins and they were both in the first-round of events against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Lehecka does have a few wins under his belt going into this slam while question marks persist over Thompson’s fitness, having not featured in the singles since the beginning of this month. We lean towards a first-round win for Lehecka.
