Jiri Lehecka continued his strong grass court campaign with a win over Jacob Fearnley in the quarter-finals of Queen’s Club. The Czech went an early break down but recovered to draw level after Fearnley double faulted on three occasions in one service game. Lehecka served out the set after grabbing another vital break and then raced ahead in the second. He produced a first serve percentage of 79% as his encouraging week in London continues.
He will go up against home favourite Jack Draper in the last four. Draper was involved in another close three set battle but came out on top to beat Brandon Nakashima 6-4 5-7 6-4. He is now guaranteed to be a top-four seed for Wimbledon and is just two matches away from a first title on home soil.
Draper’s level has dropped at times in his last two matches, and he can’t afford any more lapses against an in-form Lehecka, who has five wins from his last six matches. The British number one leads the head-to-head 2-1 and beat Lehecka earlier this year in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open.
Lehecka has the capability to cause problems for Draper and this is likely to go the distance.
