Jiri Lehecka enters the US Open as the world number 21 and he's made some strides this season, having won the Brisbane International at the start of the year and reached the final of Queen’s Club in the summer, losing to Carlos Alcaraz. He also showed promise in the summer hard court Masters tournaments, getting through to the round-of-16 in both and losing to Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz in tight matches.
Borna Coric, once a top 20 player in the world, has found some success on the Challenger Tour this season. However, he is yet to pick up a win since his return from injury a month ago and was on the end of a surprise defeat to 17-year-old Darwin Blanch in Winston-Salem last time out.
Lehecka leads the head-to-head after defeating Coric in straight sets in the first-round of the Australian Open two years ago. The Czech’s impressive serve, higher ranking and past success against an out-of-form Coric makes him a strong contender to win in straight sets.
