Jil Teichmann has not featured since her final loss in the Iasi Open a month ago. That was her second final appearance of the year but her first on the WTA Tour. The 32-year-old is competing in her first hard court event since the beginning of March, though she did show her quality earlier in the year with a run to the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open at the end of January.
Her opponent will be Lois Boisson in the first-round. Boisson has featured in three tournaments since her unbelievable run to the semi-finals of the French Open in June. She failed to make it past the first qualifying stage of Wimbledon and lost in the second-round in Bastad. Her last outing was far more impressive as she collected her first WTA Tour title in Hamburg, further emphasising her clay court credentials.
Boisson has played in clay court events for nearly the entire season, and this will be her first outdoor hard court event of the year. Though she has taken great strides in this campaign, she is a slight unknown on this surface and may struggle with the transition.
Teichmann has picked up a title on the surface this season, albeit at a lower level, and may be worth a punt as she takes on the Roland Garros semi-finalist.
