Jessica Pegula thrashed McCartney Kessler in straight sets to book her place in round three of the Australian Open. The two players competed in the doubles together, but Pegula showed no mercy here, winning the first eight games of the match as she demolished Kessler 6-0 6-2 after just 58 minutes. Pegula has dropped just five games from her two matches so far.
She now faces Oksana Selekhmeteva. The Russian reached the third-round of a major for the first time as she pulled off an upset by beating 2025 semi-finalist Paula Badosa in straight sets. Despite going a double break up, she was pegged back in the first set but broke again to take the lead. She kept creating opportunities in the second to win 6-4 6-4.
Despite Selekhmeteva’s outstanding win, Pegula has been untroubled in the opening rounds of the tournament and it’s unlikely to change in this match.
