After two three set matches, Jessica Pegula had a more comfortable time of it in her quarter-final match as she defeated Liudmila Samsonova 6-3 7-6 (1). She goes up against Marta Kostyuk in the last four. The Ukrainian continued her very encouraging start to the campaign as she defeated Mirra Andreeva 7-6 (7) 6-3. Kostyuk was without a victory over a top 10 opponent in 11 months, but she has now beaten the world number three and nine in her last two matches, having got past Amanda Anisimova in the round-of-16.

Pegula leads the head-to-head 4-1 and won their two meetings last year in Miami and Beijing. Nevertheless, Kostyuk has been performing at a strong level so far and her aggressive returns are likely to cause the American some problems on serve. This could go the distance.
