Jessica Pegula vs Kamilla Rakhimova prediction
Jessica Pegula defeated Magdalena Frech in three sets for the second time in a week as she booked her place in the third-round of the Canadian Open. The American lost the opening set to Frech at the Washington Open and once again found herself a set behind here, fighting back to win 3-6 6-3 6-2 after two hours and three minutes. The world number three struck 40 winners in total.
She now faces Kamilla Rakhimova next, after her second-round opponent Katerina Siniakova retired in their match. Rakhimova had also lost the first set but quickly took control to lead 6-7 (1) 6-0 5-2 before Siniakova decided that she could not continue.
Pegula excels at absorbing pace, and she is also consistently able to apply pressure on return, and that is going to make life difficult for Rakhimova. She was not at her best in her first match against Frech, but this is likely to be an improved display from the 32-year-old.
