Jessica Pegula vs Diana Shnaider prediction
Jessica Pegula defeated Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets to book her place in the round-of-16 stage of the Canadian Open. The match was interrupted by a rain delay, with Pegula leading by a set and 4-0, but she returned to complete a 6-4 6-0 victory in quick fashion. She now has 40 wins on the tour this season, more than any other female player. Pegula is a two-time winner of this event.
She faces Diana Shnaider in the next round. Shnaider continued her strong start to the North American swing with a straight sets win over Anna Kalinskaya. The Russian, who reached the semi-finals of this event two years ago, was always in control as she won 6-3 6-3. Shnaider now has four wins from her last five matches, having advanced to the semi-finals in Washington last week.
The player to stop her at the event was Pegula, and she leads 4-0 in the head-to-head. Shnaider did trouble her at times in that match, having gone 5-2 up in the opening set. She has enough weapons to keep the 32-year-old under pressure again, but Pegula remains the firm favourite.
