Jessica Pegula vs Coco Gauff prediction

Coco Gauff scrapped her way into her first Wimbledon quarter-final with a hard-fought victory over Belinda Bencic.

The two-time Grand Slam champion hit back to grit out a 6-4 3-6 6-4 win over the Swiss star and set up a ninth career meeting with her compatriot Jessica Pegula.

It was a similar story for fourth seed Pegula, who had to battle back to defeat another American 4-6 6-3 6-1 in the shape of rising star Iva Jovic.

Jpeg, who is now into her second quarter-final at the AELTC, leads the head-to-head 5-3 and won their most recent clash in the WTA Finals late last year. That was one of just two matches between the pair to have gone the distance with the vast majority decided in straight sets.

Surprisingly, the match-up on grass is tied at 1-1 as Pegula certainly has the greater pedigree on the turf and has looked the sharper of the two throughout this latest grass swing.

You should always be wary of writing off Gauff given her fighting qualities and resilience, which the seventh seed has demonstrated again and again in SW19 this tournament, but it does feel like she will need to find another level to deny Pegula and we feel the higher-ranked American will have the greater consistency in this latest tussle.
