Jessica Pegula vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction
Jessica Pegula got her Charleston Open campaign off to a winning start with a serene 6-0 6-2 victory over Iryna Shymanovich, converting all six of her break points and winning 72% of points on her first serve.
Pegula made the semi-finals of the event last year and has already won on the tour this season at the ATX Open but knows that Tomljanovic will be a step up in terms of an opponent.
The Australian earned a fine 6-1 6-4 win over 16th seed Peyton Stearns in the last round, despite a first serve percentage of just 55%. These two have played each other three times, with Pegula winning the two far more recent encounters, including at this year’s ATX Open which she went on to win.
Though they have never played each other on clay before, we think Pegula is determined to go one better at Charleston this year and we envisage another comfortable win for the top seed.
