Jesper de Jong enjoyed his best ever run at a Grand Slam at Roland Garros, reaching the round-of-16 of a major for the first time in his career. The Dutchman overcame Karen Khachanov in five sets, but his run would come to an end against world number three Alexander Zverev. He has not competed in any grass court events in the lead up to this slam.
De Jong faces Rinky Hijikata in the first-round. The Australian impressed at Queen’s Club last time out as he progressed to the last eight as a qualifier. This included an impressive victory over 2025 finalist Jiri Lehecka. Hijikata won his first ever match at Wimbledon last year, before a second-round loss to Ben Shelton.
Hijikata has had far more grass-court preparation coming into this match, and that may prove significant. He is likely to be better adjusted to the conditions, and that could be a real difference here.
