Jesper de Jong did not lose serve in his first-round match, as he comfortably wrapped up a 6-2 6-4 victory over Alexander Shevchenko. That makes it three consecutive straight set wins for the Dutchman, including qualifying at the event.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s form has tailed off recently, though he still poses a considerable threat on clay. He performed brilliantly in the early part of last month, reeling off four wins before losing a tight semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz in Monte-Carlo. 

He followed that up with a quarter-final appearance at the Barcelona Open, which included a brilliant win over Andrey Rublev but then a disappointing loss to Karen Khachanov. The Spaniard could only make the third-round in Madrid, but he did lose a very close encounter with world number two Alexander Zverev despite taking the first set.

Davidovich Fokina is a wonderful player on clay and should be advancing to the next round with a straight sets victory over De Jong.
