Jerome Kym advanced through US Open qualifying with straight set wins over Carlos Taberner, Michael Zheng and Yibling Wu. He won two Challenger titles in 2024 and his best result on the ATP Tour this season saw him reach the quarter-finals of Gstaad as a wildcard. His current ranking is 176 in the world.
Ethan Quinn did pick up some victories in the lead up to the major, winning all three of his first-round matches in Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati. He was unable to get any further due to two defeats against Brandon Nakashima in the space of a week, while he also lost to Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik in his most recent event.
Kym will be riding high after three straight qualifying wins, but Quinn should be regarded as the favourite and will want to make a good impression at his home slam. Kym’s aggression could see him take a set off the American but once Quinn adapts to the intensity, he should be able to get through.
