Jenson Brooksby vs James Kent prediction
Jenson Brooksby impressed in Tokyo last week as he got through to the semi-finals. He did not drop a set on his way to getting there as he beat Ugo Humbert, Luciano Darderi and Holger Rune. There have been some real highlights for the American on all three surfaces this year, as he won the title in Houston on clay, reached the Eastbourne final on grass and has now achieved his best result on a hard court in 2025. Just like the outcome of Eastbourne, he would fail to trouble Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals in Tokyo.
James Kent, who is ranked 212 in the world, will be his opponent in the first-round. He has featured in the main draw of the ATP Tour on just one occasion this season, as he lost in round one of the Delray Beach Open. He also failed to qualify for Indian Wells, the Canadian Open, Cincinnati and all four Grand Slam events. His record on the Challenger Tour has been mostly average, as he has been unable to get past the quarter-final stage of any tournament.
Brooksby will look to continue his form in Shanghai and he’s a commanding favourite to win this in straight sets.
