Jelena Ostapenko will hope to ignite on one of her famed hot streaks when she gets underway in Adelaide.

The Latvian has lost her last five matches, including her opener in Brisbane last week.

The former French Open winner will now aim to reset against Tereza Valentova, who will represent a significant challenge.

The 18-year-old achieved a career high just outside the top 50 after reaching the final in Osaka back in October and is very much one to watch.

The Czech also lost at the first hurdle in Brisbane but breezed through qualifying here.

This will be their first ever meeting and could well be a match of fluctuation momentum. It’s strange to suggest a raw teenager will be the more consistent, but that can often be the case when Ostapenko is at the other side of the net.

If the Latvian red-lines she’ll be hard to stop, but if the errors flow, then Valentova has the quality to take advantage and it could well be a topsy-turvy three-setter here.
