Jelena Ostapenko vs Jessica Pegula prediction

Jelena Ostapenko enjoyed a dominant win over Daria Kasatkina in the first-round of the Wuhan Open. The Latvian dropped just two games in total, winning 6-1 6-1. Ostapenko’s recent form has not been particularly encouraging, with early defeats in Seoul and Beijing. 

She now faces second seed Jessica Pegula. The American is competing in her first event since the US Open. Pegula was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals, as her wait for a first Grand Slam continues. To prioritize her health and ensure proper recovery, she pulled out of both the WTA 500 in Singapore and the WTA 1000 in Beijing. However, she is back and aiming for a strong end to the campaign.

Pegula leads the head-to-head 3-1. They faced each other earlier this season at Indian Wells, with the world number three coming from a set down to win. She may need a few games to find her rhythm, but she remains the clear favourite to progress.
