The Italian headed into this WTA 1000 with confidence after her strong performances at the Billie Jean King Cup, and she was on form here as she wrapped up a 6-1 6-3 victory after an hour and 10 minutes. She has now won her last four matches.
Sofia Kenin is her opponent in the third-round. Kenin defeated Polina Kudermetova in straight sets to advance. It was a dominant win for the American, who wasn’t broken on serve and conceded just two break points in total.
