Jasmine Paolini vs Nikola Bartunkova prediction

Jasmine Paolini produced an impressive performance in the first-round of the Wuhan Open, as she defeated Sara Bejlek in straight sets. Paolini was broken on four occasions, but she showed resilience to fight back and win 6-3 6-4 after one hour and 41 minutes. The Italian progressed to the semi-finals of this event last year.

Her next opponent is Nikola Bartunkova. The 20-year-old continued her excellent run of form with a win over Lilli Tagger. Bartunkova had broken new ground with her run to the semi-finals of the China Open, her best ever result at a WTA 1000 event, and she outlasted Tagger to win 7-6 (4) 2-6 6-1 in round one of this event. 

Paolini’s experience and returning ability make her dangerous, but Bartunkova has produced the stronger results in China, and is beginning to establish herself against top-level opposition on a regular basis. However, her demanding in Beijing, followed by a three set opener in Wuhan, may have taken a physical toll.
