Jasmine Paolini vs Maria Sakkari prediction
By her standards, Jasmine Paolini is not having the best of seasons and she comes into the Cincinnati Open in relatively mediocre form.
Despite winning the Italian Open earlier in the year, many of her other performances have been below-par especially after she reached two Grand Slam finals last year.
She comes off a shock loss to Aoi Ito in Montreal last week and that came after she won the first set. She will look to regroup now and she will be desperate to find some form ahead of the US Open.
She has been handed a tricky opening draw against Maria Sakkari who is always capable of springing an upset against the best players on the tour as she showed a couple of weeks ago in Washington DC when she beat Emma Navarro.
Despite that, it has not been the best of years for Sakkari and those upsets are more down to her opponents under-performing than overly special performances on her side.
We like Paolini here to have a point to prove and to get the result despite her struggles. It may not be as clear cut as we would usually expect, but back Paolini to battle to victory.
