Jasmine Paolini ended a three-match losing run in the previous round as she thrashed Priscilla Hon to advance to the quarter-finals. Paolini won the first eight games of the match as she won 6-0 6-2 after just an hour and 11 minutes.
She faces Katie Boulter next. The former British number one went through as her opponent Camila Osorio was forced to retire after the first set. Boulter did go a break down but quickly recovered and went on to win the set 6-3. She has now won her last seven matches, following her title in Ostrava at the beginning of the month.
Despite this run of form, Boulter’s first serve percentage is a worry. It was just 36% in her first-round match against Beatriz Haddad Maia, and increased to just 42% after the first set with Osorio. If she puts up similar numbers against Paolini, there’s a strong chance she will be punished.
Paolini leads the head-to-head 3-1 and is the commanding favourite to go through.
