Jasmine Paolini vs Iga Swiatek prediction
Jasmine Paolini got through to her fifth WTA 1000 quarter-final of the season as her opponent Clara Tauson was forced to retire in the third set. A highly competitive first set went the way of the Dane, though Paolini dominated the second to take the match into a third and final set. Tauson struggled physically at the start and could not continue, with Paolini leading 3-6 6-1 3-1.
She will now go up against second seed Iga Swiatek. The Pole did not have things all her own way but still reached the quarter-finals after a straight sets win over Belinda Bencic. Swiatek raced into a 3-0 lead at the start but was pegged back by Bencic, who served for the set at 5-4. The six-time Grand Slam champion subsequently broke straight back and took the set on a tiebreak. Bencic would not fall away and broke at the start of the second to establish a 2-0 lead, but Swiatek again fought back and sealed a 7-6 6-4 win.
It's pure domination for Swiatek in terms of the head-to-head, as she leads 5-0. They have played on two occasions this season, with the world number two comfortably beating Paolini at the Bad Homburg Open and then defeating the Italian in a closer match at the Cincinnati Open final, though she still won in straight sets.
Paolini seems to struggles to deal with Swiatek’s intensity and consistency, while her serve will be under constant pressure from the second seed. Swiatek starts as the heavy favourite and could wrap this up in straight sets.
