Jasmine Paolini’s hopes of returning to the Roland-Garros final face a major obstacle against Elina Svitolina.

No player has posted more wins on clay this year than the Ukrainian, who edged a pressure-fuelled high-class clash with Bernarda Pera 7-6 7-6 in the last round.

Paolini has notched up some solid results on her way to the round of 16 but the Rome champion is still searching for her very best form. 

The fourth seed will need it against fellow counter puncher Svitolina, who came out on top when the pair met for the first time at the Australian Open back in January. 

Paolini is likely to show slightly more aggression in terms of looking to attack but 13th seed Svitolina will have the French crowd firmly behind her.
