Two seeded players are set to do battle here with the pair having advanced to the third round in different ways. Whilst Jasmine Paolini made it through in straight sets following two successful tie-breakers, Ashlyn Krueger was forced into a third set by Anastasija Sevastova after being ‘bageled’ in set two, although the American did well to regain her composure and triumph 6-3 in the deciding set.

Krueger served an alarming 11 double faults against Sevastova and similarly inaccurate service game here would likely see her punished by Paolini, although the Italian struggled in the clutch vs Sakkari, winning just two of the ten break points she had across both sets. Both these two players have not been at their best so far in Cincinnati.

However, this may lead to an exciting contest with the outcome capable of going either way. Paolini came very close to losing a set in the second round and it would be no surprise if she dropped one to Krueger. Therefore, backing this one to go the distance is warranted.
