Alexandra Eala ended the reign of Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek to secure her maiden round of 16 appearance at a Grand Slam.
The Filipina once again got the better of the Pole as she secured an impressive 7-6 6-2 victory on her Centre Court bow.
The 29th seed will now face Jasmine Paolini for the second time after the Italian rampaged to a 6-1 6-2 success over Maria Sakkari.
Eala claimed a 6-1 7-6 win in their maiden tussle in Dubai in February and although 13th seed Paolini has shown an improvement in form here and is also a former finalist, there’s something about Alexandra’s belief and hunger that means we side with her in this one.
