Jaqueline Cristian vs Leylah Fernandez prediction

Jaqueline Cristian was thrashed by Marketa Vondrousova in the first-round of the Cincinnati Open in her most recent tournament, losing 6-3 6-1. That would have been a disappointment for Cristian after a more positive performance in Montreal, where she beat Linda Noskova and made the third-round. She is currently ranked just inside the top 50 of the world rankings.

Her first-round opponent is Leylah Fernandez, with the Canadian still without a win since lifting the title in Washington at the end of July. An early loss to young Maya Joint at her home tournament was understandable after such a quick turnaround, but her straight sets defeat to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in Cincinnati will have been more concerning.

Cristian does lead the head-to-head 1-0, having come from a set down to beat Fernandez in the second-round of Indian Wells earlier this year. Nevertheless, this should be the match where the 2021 US Open finalist returns to winning ways.
