Jaqueline Cristian vs Elena Rybakina prediction
Jaqueline Cristian booked her place in the next round of the Wuhan Open after defeating McCartney Kessler. A bizarre first set saw Kessler win the first three games, only for Cristian to reel off the next five to build an imposing lead. However, she failed to serve out the set and Kessler took it on a tiebreak. Cristian would proceed to win the next six games without reply to emphatically win the second set, before breaking twice at the end of the decider to win 6-7 6-0 6-3. That was her first victory in three matches.
Elena Rybakina is her next opponent. The 2022 Wimbledon champion last competed at the China Open, where she lost in round three to Eva Lys. Rybakina has failed to win a major event this season but has still been consistent, with a title in Strasbourg followed up by six semi-final appearances, including at three WTA 1000 events. She is currently ranked number nine and will hope for a deep run in Wuhan as she seeks to secure a place in the WTA Finals.
Rybakina leads the head-to-head 2-1 and it’s 1-1 on hard court. They faced each other just over two months ago in Montreal, with the Kazakhstani winning 6-0 7-6 in the third-round. She will be determined to get off to a strong start and has a fine chance of getting through in straight sets.
