Jannik Sinner will aim for a fifth major title and second US Open when he begins his campaign at Flushing Meadows. The defending champion was unable to win a second consecutive Cincinnati Open as he retired after going 5-0 down to great rival Carlos Alcaraz in the first set. Sinner had been unwell the previous evening, and the situation did not improve in the leadup to the final. The Italian still performed well at the event and didn't drop a set in any of his matches. He has since practiced in New York and seems to have overcome the issue.

He will face Vit Kopriva in round one. Kopriva has failed to reach the third-round of a tournament since his run at the Italian Open in May. He lost in round two of Winston-Salem last time out and is currently ranked 87 in the world.

This is likely to be a very comfortable first-round match for the world number one, and he should be coming through this with consummate ease.
