Jannik Sinner overcame a huge scare in the first-round of Wimbledon as he defeated Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets on the opening day. Sinner was two sets to one down, but he regrouped to win 4-6 6-3 6-7 (6) 6-2 6-3. The Italian was still very solid on serve, winning 89% of his points on first serve and hammering down 31 aces in total.
He plays Nuno Borges in round two. The Portuguese swept aside Tristan Boyer in his opening match at the All England Club. Borges dropped his serve on just the one occasion as he won 6-3 7-5 7-5 after two hours and five minutes. He reached the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships last week, so he has found form on grass.
Having lacked match practice heading into the tournament, Sinner will be pleased to have shaken off some rust despite dropping two sets. He should be much sharper from the outset in this encounter with Borges.
