Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic prediction

After suffering an elbow injury in his extremely fortuitous victory over the unlucky Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16, there were some concerns over Jannik Sinner’s physical condition ahead of his quarter-final with Ben Shelton on Wednesday.

However, the world number one showed very few signs of discomfort in wrapping up a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-4 win over the American, who commented in the aftermath that he has never seen anything like the speed Sinner can produce on a consistent basis with his ground strokes.

Few players can match up to that, but Novak Djokovic is certainly one who has a realistic chance having beaten the Italian in both their previous Wimbledon meetings (2022 and 2023).

The Serb, still in the hunt for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, has shown his typical resilience and mental toughness to move ominously through the draw.

Djokovic has lost the opening set in his previous two matches, against Alex de Minaur and more recently Sinner’s compatriot Flavio Cobolli. On both occasions the 24-time Grand Slam champion raised his game when it mattered most, although he did suffer an awkward fall late on against Cobolli that will leave his fans concerned about a potential injury.

Although Djokovic has previously had the edge in their Wimbledon battles, a constantly improving Sinner has won the last three meetings between the two, most recently in straight sets at the French Open – also a semi-final.

This is unlikely to be as one-sided considering Djokovic’s grass-court excellence, but he is a (very slightly) fading force while 23-year-old Sinner is only getting better. Expect some swings in momentum and some memorable rallies throughout, with Sinner to eventually come out on top.
