World number one Jannik Sinner has had some 2024 and he has a chance to cap it off in style. In his native Italy, Sinner will be keen to make a statement in Turin and get the win this week against all of his closest rivals.
He comes to Turin in unbelievable form having won three of his last four tournaments with his China Open final loss to Carlos Alcaraz his only setback. Otherwise, he has looked incredible in his victories in the Cincinnati Masters, the US Open and the Shanghai Masters.
Even in China and Shanghai after a short break following the US Open, he hit the ground running and played some sensational tennis and he will be confident of doing the same here.
He meets Alex de Minaur who has fought back well in recent months to qualify for this tournament after a challenging second half of the year plagued with injury troubles.
The fact he has had to battle in recent weeks to earn more rankings points to reach this event should see him bring some momentum into this tournament. He will likely be as sharp as he has been for months and that will serve him well.
He does however possess an awful record against Sinner having lost all seven of their previous meetings. De Minaur has openly talked about some of the psychological challenges he has faced this year and with that abysmal record against Sinner, we cannot see any type of upset here. A straight sets win for Sinner is on the cards.
