Jannik Sinner’s hardcourt charge continued despite a late rally from Gabriel Diallo.

The top seed was forced to save set point in the second stanza before securing a 6-2 7-6 victory that extended his winning streak on the surface to 22 matches. 

The defending champion will now face Adrian Mannarino in the round of 16 after the veteran Frenchman shocked home favourite Tommy Paul by a 5-7 6-3 6-4 scoreline. 

This will be a fourth meeting between the pair with Sinner winning the previous three. All of the encounters have been on a hardcourt but this will be a first since 2023.

That makes the task even more daunting for Mannarino given the level Sinner has attained since and the Italian’s power will be too much in this one.
