Jan-Lennard Struff vs Mackenzie McDonald prediction

Jan-Lennard Struff produced his most impressive level of the season at the US Open as he came all the way from qualifying to the round-of-16 in New York, where he would lose to Novak Djokovic. That was a very strong tournament for the German, considering his lacklustre form up until that point. Despite that run, his most recent results have been disappointing once again, with early defeats in Villena and Roanne on the Challenger Tour.

In the first-round of the Almaty Open, Struff will play Mackenzie McDonald. The American has picked up several victories on the Challenger Tour over the past few weeks. He got through to the semi-finals in Jingshan and after failing to qualify for the Shanghai Masters, competed in Jinan and made the final before a defeat to Arthur Cazaux.

They faced each other for the first time very recently, with Struff coming from a set down to beat McDonald in four sets in the first-round of the US Open. McDonald has been the stronger player since that event, but Struff does have the more powerful game which could suit the indoor conditions. This encounter could head into three sets.
