Jan-Lennard Struff cruised into the next round of the Rotterdam Open after a straight sets win over Hugo Grenier. The German won the first eight games of the match as he breezed through the early stages. Grenier finally got on the board by breaking back at the start of the second, and the set would be competitive. Nevertheless, Struff would break again as Grenier was serving to stay in the match to win 6-0 6-4.
He takes on Alexander Bublik next. The world number 10 fought back as he defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the last round. Bublik dropped the first set and looked on course for an early exit as Hurkacz broke to serve for the match. However, the Pole committed three double faults to hand Bublik a reprieve, and he went on to level the match after winning the second set tiebreak. He broke in the 11th game of the third and closed it out to win 6-7 (2) 7-6 (1) 7-5.
Struff leads the head-to-head 4-1 but they have not played each other since Bublik’s rapid improvement over the past year. The Kazakhstani will be the firm favourite to advance, but he will hope for an improved display against Struff.
