Jan Choinski advanced to his first ATP quarter-final after overcoming fellow Brit Felix Gil in three sets. Choinski had a match point at 5-4 up in the second set, but Gil saved it and forced a decider after winning the tiebreak. Nevertheless, he would falter in the third set as Choinski broke his serve twice to win 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-2.
He will now play Zizou Bergs for a place in the semi-finals. Bergs continued his best ever run at an ATP event this season after his opponent Daniel Altmaier retired in the second set of their match. Bergs was leading 6-3 3-2 when the German brought an end to his participation in the match.
These two played in the qualifying stages of Wimbledon two years ago, with Bergs winning in three sets. Choinski will have home support and should be able to make this a competitive watch, but his opponent is a firm favourite to progress.
